TEENAGERS / YOUNG ADULTS
-
Spare Seat can work with NDIS participants who are self-managed and plan managed. We will work collaboratively with families/advocates and participants to create an experience that is the right fit.
-
Mainly outdoors. This could be anywhere from Henley Beach to Kuipto Forest, or even a dog-friendly park near your home. We can explore beyond Adelaide to Yorke Peninsula or Fleurieu Peninsula, or venture into the Flinders Ranges. Where do you want to go?
-
For now, Spare Seat operates 1:1. We will expand to 2 participants when a group environment is beneficial to both involved.
-
Generally between 3 and 6 hours.
-
The safety and wellbeing of participants and everyone who engages with us, especially young and vulnerable people, is our top priority. Please reach out to see if Spare Seat is the right fit and to make sure the experience meets our ‘Safe, Relevant, Memorable’ playbook.
-
Young people who may be:
at risk of social isolation
struggling with their emotional/mental wellbeing
wanting to develop confidence and new skills
neurodivergent and needing a unique, supported approach
SCHOOLS - SMALL GROUPS
-
Yes. Spare Seat offers half or full-day outdoor adventures for learners aged 12+ who thrive outside traditional settings, including those at risk of school refusal.
Programs range from one-off sessions to multi-week or term-long experiences.
-
Around 5-6 participants per group.
By intentionally keeping groups small we foster connection and reduce overwhelm. This approach ensures every young person feels seen, heard, and valued for their unique strengths.
Plus, it allows space for meaningful conversations, personal growth, and self-discovery.
-
The benefits look different for everyone. For some, it’s forming positive associations with school; for others, it’s making new connections with peers, learning in non-traditional ways, or building confidence through hands-on experiences in the outdoors.
-
With over a decade of teaching experience across SA and NT, we understand the challenges many young people face today. Respecting individual readiness, we invite participation—never demand it—ensuring everyone feels supported to take steps in their own time. Flexibility is key!
YOUNG AT HEART
-
Spare Seat is in the process of developing adult-focused day sessions and camping trips for 2025.
These experiences will offer opportunities to reset, connect with nature, and enjoy meaningful outdoor adventures in a relaxed, supportive environment.
